IN-CHARACTER:
Character: O'danya Mitnu (Danya of the O tribe, daughter of O'mitnu Nunh)
Journal: [personal profile] paeon
Series: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
Notes: Taking O'danya directly from the point between Minfilia's kidnapping with Tupsimati and the Chrysalis fight of the 2.5 story patch.
Species: Miqo'te. Cat-like species of the five main races, Danya is of the diurnal subspecies: Seekers of the Sun. Their eyes are slitted like a cat's, but their teeth are humanlike in exchange. These miqo'te are excellent hunters and gather together in tribes around their Nunhs (breeder males). All other males are Tias and fight to be Nunhs while the women are the badass hunters. Basically lions. They're lions. It's awesome.

History: General game history up to the 2.4 story patch: Dreams of Ice. It's fucking long, so here's a very, very compressed highlights reel:

Once upon a time, the world had two moons. One moon was actually a satellite holding an elder god named Bahamut. It fell to the earth in an event called the Calamity, but a brave elezen transported the would-be saviors forward five years in time to save their lives from the catastrophe. Due to the time/space fuckery of this push, these saviors can only be remembered as silhouettes against a bright light. Subsequently: Warriors of Light. O'danya herself is one of these previous warriors who recalls little about her life before showing up in Gridania, although her name and accent pins her as a native to the La Noscean plains.

After making friends and being badass, O'danya and her BFF Alichi'ra move on from Gridania and are sequestered into taking on dungeons and generally being the biggest, baddest of asses Eorzea has seen since the original Warriors of Light five years ago. They're taken into an organization called the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, a party neutral to the three city-states in order to deal with the larger threat of primals that could destroy the realm. First came Ifrit, Lord of the Inferno, then came a goddamn clusterfuck of a fetch quest Titan, Lord of Crags, and finally Garuda, Lady of the Vortex. All throughout, the Scions met with troubles and tragedy that both O'danya and Alichi'ra helped those involved pull through to the other side. By the time Garuda was slain, the Garlean forces invading Eorzea had come into a great power called the Ultima Weapon that simply absorbed the entire aetheric essences of the primals and gained unimaginable power.

With the blessing of the mothercrystal Hydaelyn behind them, O'danya and Alichi'ra invaded the heart of Garlemald's outposts, the Praetorium, and destroyed the Ultima Weapon. This was taken as the crowning achievement of the era and the rulers declared the time thenceforth as the Seventh Astral Era. (It's a timekeeping thing in the realm, okay?) After that, there was a lot of busywork to be done with the Scions suddenly becoming hella famous for managing to put down the Garlean invasion and their bid to remain neutral while encouraging growth of the organization. Amongst all the stupid silly political drama, some moogles managed to manifest an entirely make-believe primal based off their folklore legend, King Moggle Mog XII. It was put down quite handily by O'danya and pals while raising a whole lot of questions on the nature of primals.

From there, the Scions were then asked for aid by citizens of a far-off land called Doma that had recently fallen to Garlemald's invasion. These Domans eventually were taken in by the Scions and became helpful allies in their efforts, while the Lord of the Whorl, Leviathan, was summoned and did some seriously wacky shit that made primals even weirder. We don't even know anymore. We do know, however, that to fight a gigantic sea serpent in the middle of his domain you have to do something drastic. Like use a boat to pull two boats strapped together to make an EVEN BIGGER BOAT PLATFORM to ram into Leviathan just to start the fight. Anyway once all that was taken care of, there comes more political tension in the fact that some hot shot rich guy political paper-pusher was attempting to excavate an Omega Weapon because why not. There's more political shit that I really don't care about so instead I'll explain how Ramuh, Lord of the Levin, is really your disappointed grandpa who only asked you to a fight because he wanted to make sure you were good enough to be the realm's protector. Ramuh's cool. He's a bro. We beat him up and he ain't even mad.

Blah blah more political happenings up in SNOWY COERTHAS because it borders another countryrealm called Ishgard where the people there are literally in a war WITH DRAGONS. It's French and full of elezen and they have inquisitors and stuff. Anyway. There's a problem going on because someone keeps sabotaging supply caravans and all the good guys can eventually get is that the efforts are spearheaded by someone named Lady Iceheart. This eventually turns out to be another Echo-user who manages to summon the spirit of Saint Shiva, a woman who literally got it on with dragons, as a primal using her body as a vessel. Even more questions arise!

Oh also there's been this subplot about a people called the Ascians, otherworldly beings who exist in the physical realm by possessing humans and cheat death by noping out before they hit the lifestream when they die. They're pains in the ass. The Scions were figuring out how to actually kill them by capturing their souls and blasting it with super concentrated beams of aether, it's all very technical and mystical and oooh and ahhhh. As all this research is going on, the adventurers are tasked with checking on the corpse of the lord dragon, Midgardsormr, whose corpse lies like ten feet away from the Scions' new headquarters because people have been worrying that he's ready to revive or something. Turns out: myth confirmed. Midgardsormr literally eats Hydaelyn's blessing from O'danya and Alichi'ra and uses it to form a smaller, adorable Minigardsormr body and starts stalking them like a creepy terrible dragondad. Then the Ascians strike while trying to take an ancient tool nobody knew they were sitting on, a Scion dies giving their aetheric energy to the destruction of an Ascian, and it's all very sad.

Credits roll. 2.5 is over. This is where we're at. O'danya is from that point between the Ascian taking the ancient tool and actually killing the Ascian, Nabriales.

Personality: Being a Warrior of Light and a hero across the realm, O'danya is naturally rather charismatic. Although she isn't well-minded for the more intricate details of political games, she has a brilliant head on her shoulders and rather likes people. Friends are made easily, even if she only has a select few within her confidence. She isn't infallible, nor does she pretend to be, but one thing O'danya does hope to convey is that she is someone who gets the job done.

O'danya is a very driven person. At her core, she wishes for nothing more than to be reliable: for herself and for others. To facilitate that, she's a hard worker with an almost compulsive need to be doing something at any time. Even if it's as simple as reading or exercising or pointedly not overtaxing herself, she's very aware of the image she gives off and cultivates it purposefully. It isn't a desire to be untouchable, but the very opposite. She wishes to be the person everyone else can go to with their problems, as she knows one of her talents lies in making things right. She cannot stand those who would use her in an excuse for laziness, and rather tries to offer her help to those who cannot or shouldn't have to complete things on their own. Her skills are to help those who need it, not those who won't help themselves. Similarly, she is rather humble thanks to this view in that she will never take glory for the actions of others.

Despite this odd need in her life, O'danya isn't one to fall prey to destructive habits very easily. It is who she is and she embraces it fully. Her life is to live for others and she gladly takes on the demands without considering them burdens. What would be the fun in adventuring if everything seemed like a chore? However, despite wishing nothing but good for herself and others, O'danya has the most respect for those who will accept her help without being entirely dependent on it. Her best friend, Alichi'ra Drakkha, falls into this category rather handily and is one of the many reasons why they get along so fantastically. They are literally night and day, opposites attracting, and for any weakness or failing one might have, the other shores it up perfectly in order to make an unstoppable force when they've both set their minds to something. The other side of this respect for self-sufficiency is a judgmental anger reserved for those who would claim ability or status beyond their earned station — to put themselves in charge without wielding the power responsibly, putting others in danger or likewise making them pick up the slacker's load. She isn't above speaking nastily about anyone she deems as harmful, either behind their backs or to their faces, with an understanding that she doesn't know everything but at least knows enough to not bite off more than she can reasonably chew.

Despite all of the power that O'danya wields and the influence she's gained, Danya is rather down to earth. She understands the scope of her fame but never assumes anyone knows who she is or what an "honor" it is for her to be taking on their problems. In her own mind, she's just everyone's big sister (no matter the age difference) and enjoys it that way. To be anything other than cool, collected or at peace with herself in the presence of strangers is something she can't stand. Her image is important, even if it isn't the image one would expect her to have of herself. Not your realm-saving hero, but your everyday, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man adventurer. These are the stresses in her life, the need to make sure she's skilled enough to take on any task, the drive that can border obsession in having too much of a good thing. She is nothing without her image and whether she has to make it all over again or forever keep it up with the people who know her, she's not about to admit to weakness just because she's tired or upset. Only Alichi'ra might see such downsides to her, and Alichi'ra is the only one she'd easily accept comfort from despite her many friends in the Scions and throughout the realm.

Abilities: O'danya possesses within her a constant need to grow and improve as an adventurer. Much of her skill comes self-taught, but much of her advanced ability comes from items called Soul Crystals that are imbued with memories of heroes past and strengthen a user's affinity to a particular vocation. Learned ability sets are called classes, while advanced, augmented and enhanced sets are jobs. O'danya is practiced in most all classes (arcanist, archer, conjurer, gladiator, lancer, marauder, pugilist, rogue and thaumaturge) to varying degrees of aptitude. Her refined jobs are that of Bard, Scholar, Warrior, Ninja, and Black Mage. She is also a Disciple of the Hand in order to maintain a modicum of self-sufficiency by crafting her own clothes and making food for herself and Alichi'ra. Upon entrance to the game, she will only have her grimoire, the Omnilex, her frying pan, Chantico, and various clothing sets in an adventurer's apparent hammerspace where gearsets go. Don't... don't ask me where they come from, we just know they can't swap on the fly, in battle or when distracted.

The Echo is a blessing given to the mothercrystal Hydaelyn's chosen few. This blessing allows them protection from a primal's tempering process; shielding from outside influences; empowerment in times of struggle; uncontrollable ability to read memories; unconditional translation; and generally amazing fortune. Although no longer in the possession of the Echo as of the ending of the 2.5 story patch, O'danya does still seem to retain the ability to receive memories of people around her during distressing or important moments (re: Syrcus Tower finishing cutscene). This will be on a by-permission basis with any players involved and generally won't come up much. She would appear to also retain the ability to understand any language spoken to her because idk game doesn't really say which are abilities from the Echo and which are blessings from Hydaelyn through the Echo.

Speaking of Alichi'ra, as of their Eternal Bonding, O'danya has an Eternal Ring that is attuned to its partner ring in Alichi'ra's possession. What this means is that every 24 hours, they can use it as a type of aetheryte to teleport to each others' locations by following the trail of aether between them. This cannot be used when either of them is distracted or otherwise unavailable. Finally of note, O'danya is incredibly far-sighted and cannot see well close-up without her glasses.

BARD
Tool Bows, harps
Specialty Long-range damage, mobility, support
Advances from Archer
Bards are the minstrels of the battlefield. With their distance far enough to watch but close enough to count, they often receive the inspiration needed to sing songs that empower their allies in numerous different ways. Their songs include Mage's Ballad (MP regen), Army's Paeon (TP regen), and Foe Requiem (lowers enemy's magic defense). This comes at the price of lowering their damage output due to the distraction of maintaining magical music.

SCHOLAR
Tool Grimoires
Specialty Summoning pet-like fairies, healing, support
Advances from Arcanist
Ancient Nymian healer-tacticians who led entire war efforts, Scholar techniques are only a recent rediscovery thanks to the efforts of a marauder named Alka Zolka and O'danya herself. Their abilities lie in foresight of an enemy's next move and preparation to mitigate the damage, as well as summoning aetherial faeries to aid them on the battlefield. With Adloquiem and Succor, they are capable of restoring wounds and covering them with a galvanized layer of protection from the next hit.

WARRIOR
Tool Axes
Specialty Tanking, high endurance, multi-foe distraction
Advances from Marauder
Warriors are the berserkers of the battlefield. Once feared for being uncontrollable monsters when in the depths of their wrath, true order has been returned to the technique where one embraces the defiance of battle and retains a sense of self through the clouding rage. Their skills lie in the ability to bolster their own endurance and power through difficult hits while shielding their allies from an enemy's attention.

NINJA
Tool Stabbers daggers
Specialty Speed, versatility, stealth
Advances from Rogue
Ninja are the warriors from the far-off land of Doma. The art was brought to Eorzea by a small group on the hunt to bring justice to a turncoat shinobi, noticed for the striking similarity to Limsa's art of roguery. Because of this, the ancient ways of stealth, assassination and inner-body energy manipulation in the form of mudras are a natural evolution from the rogues' skillset.

BLACK MAGE
Tool Staves
Specialty Magical nuke, aether management, one-trick pony
Advances from Thaumaturge
Black Mages are those who stare into the abyss of the void and come out with their sanity in tact. Their power lies in the ability to draw aether from the forbidden and mold it to their own, incredibly destructive use. By manipulating the flow of fiery astral and icy umbral aether, they never run out of magical stamina to continue their rain of terror.

CRAFTER
Tool Saw, frying pan, head knife, sewing needle
Specialty Implements, food, clothing
Idk they make cool shit. Don't you want cool shit?

Augment: Security.
Sample: dear-player, fuck yeah!
